Moved to your own toddler bed

Alina was just born this past week, and you are reacting fine.  We thought you would be more jealous, but you look at Alina with wonder and you try to touch her gently (though once in a while that strange thought enters your head to bonk her and see what happens).  You make your "meow" noise when trying to talk to her (you say "nah?").

Momma got you your cachow sheets (Cars) and rearranged your room so that your toddler bed (which Papa pulled from in front of someone’s house during spring cleanup 😉 was where your crib was.  She left the crib in the room.  But for Christmas day, Joannie and Al came over, and when it was time for you to nap, Joannie took you upstairs, and had no idea that you had not moved to your new bed yet.  But you climbed right in, and slept like a big boy!

So now you sleep there, and you can get up all by yourself.  You are so cute at 2AM when you show up in our room.  Papa picks you up, and we go downstairs to get some fresh apple juice in your "bebe."  Then we go back up, and you stay in your bed until morning.  You’re a good boy, and when you are tired, you stay in your bed without a problem.  Awesome!

One more thing.  You love to play your version of peekaboo with Papa every time you go down to sleep.  You have your bebe in your right hand, and while you are nursing that bottle, you cover your eyes with your left hand.  Papa pretends like he doesn’t see you, saying "where’s Danielito?"  When you uncover your eyes, I act surprised, and say "there he is!"  We do this 6 to 10 times before Papa wears out and strokes your hair, tells you Papa loves you, kisses your head, and gets up to leave and let you sleep.

First Birthday

Danielasleep
Today, we spent your birthday in San Francisco, getting passports for you and Sofia for our trip to Puerto Vallarta next week.  It was a little frustrating waiting in lines, and not getting your naps at the right time, but you did your best.

Today, I carried you on my back, and you fell asleep (picture above).

Crawling

This past weekend, just after we returned from Thanksgiving in Fort Mill with Marc et al., you started crawling.  Not that fast or that far, but you are definitely mobile.  No more napping on the bed for you, you’ll have to be restrained in the crib!

You also got your two top front teeth in, which brings you to four.  Each day you get cuter and we love you more.  I personally can’t wait for you to get about 10 months older so you can start talking, what fun!

Our last night in Fort Mill, you awoke crying in a way that really scared us.  You were wheezing and crying, and momma panicked a little, saying "Danielito!" over and over as if trying to awake you from a bad dream or seizure.  I woke Marc and Angela up (2AM), and we all talked about whether or not to take you to the emergency room.  Marc had seen this before, and since you were able to calm down and nurse, we figured it was just a viral thing that you probably caught from Zanis.

You have been getting better over the past few days, but you gave it to your papa, and I am home from work for a few days while I recover.

Teeth, Crawling, Cousin Zanis

We’ve been so buy, have not had time to post.  However, about three weeks ago, you had your first two teeth come in on the bottom.  The night before they came in, you had an impressive fever, and you were miserable all night.  We gave you tylenol, which helped some.

This past week, you started army crawling around, but you’re still not crawling.

But the fun thing is that you’ve spent time with your primos here in Fort Mill for Thanksgiving.  You and Zanis are the same age, and almost look like brothers.  Cute!

Cute Laughing Boy

You’ve been laughing for a few weeks now, and just this week, you started responding to peekaboo.  Just like Sofia, you are soooo cute!  We love looking at you, and we love making you laugh.  You also like to vocalize by doing a sort of extended yell, and you make a face like you’re concentrating.  You have an intense gaze that makes you look serious and smart (like your papa ;).

My favorite game is in the evenings, when I am changing your diaper on the bed, before mama takes you to breastfeed and put you to bed.  When you are just in your new diaper, with your chest bared, I take off my glasses and slowly move my face down towards yours, looking at you mischeiviously.  You smile a little knowing something is coming.  I then put my mouth over one of your pectoral muscles and gum you while making a "ar ar ar" noise like I’m eating.  You put your head back and laugh, with your big toothless mouth wide open and your eyes squeezed shut.  Then I do the same maneuver on your neck.

You’re a joy, so much fun, but so different than your sister.  Noisier, more energetic, more demanding!  We love you boy!

Rolling Over, Thumb Sucking

Daniel09_7_2So you’re 4 months old, and you’ve finally hit this set of milestones.  Your sister was sucking her thumb at 2 months, but you’ve been sucking your hand for a while.

We have really been enjoying making you smile and laugh, though your laugh is still subdued because you are so small.  But you are charming.  And everyone says you look like Papa.
